I would take one row off the side and add to the top of the quilt.
This would make the quilt longer then wider.
Then for additional L and W you could add 2 or 3 borders.

I would unsew the two left side rows and add the necessary bird squares to the bottom. It would make the layout symmetrical. Then you could add borders to your heart's content. It is a pretty quilt.

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone. I think I am just going to add the borders.

the thing about unsewing is that the fabric gets skewed out of shape. so even though it looks the nicest, is it really the best idea to take so many pieces apart? this is more than one or two pieces here. one solution may be to find another totally different fabric that coordinates and add the extra length top and bottom before adding borders. another might be to use the same solid colors in a different but coordinating pattern, like three rails across then three rails up and down, in two strips, top and bottom, before adding borders.

what is the width of the quilt as it stands now and what do you shoot for?

I just added black on the top and the bottom. Let me go check. It's 47 in across and 36 in long. I just want it longer than it is wide.

This is what it looks like right now. Can anyone make me a label? I just tried like 7 times. They look awful. I have never done one before. I will pay for it.

Love the quilt. I would use wider borders on the top and narrower on the sides to square it up. Just my opinion.
