I made my two grandsons T-shirt quilts. They were mostly sports T-shirts but any T-shirt will do.

A bit of a surprise, but not totally. He is a Lego aficionado and a big Ohio State fan. I have some OSU fabrics and thought about going with red (scarlet), gray and black rather than make it all about football. The maryquilts web site did have some great ideas. Thanks everyone!

My 12 year old was a little boy when I made him and his brothers D9Ps of their favorite cartoons. He's since grown out of it and needs one bigger bed size. He's asked for the same pattern, but Marvel comics instead of Thomas the Train. My 11 year old is also due another quilt. He's looking through a list of patterns I have gave him to pick one for his bed and he agreed that we could pick the fabric together. He isn't interested in a D9P or having Lightning McQueen on his quilt. I think each one is different. My 11 year old is very interested in the process of going from pattern to quilt, so I'll include him in the process and see if the quilt bug bites.

My 4 yo nephew went to the fabric store with his mother one day and he found the Star Wars fabric which was green and showed the plans of making the Death Star and other items. He was carrying the bolt around trying to convince his mother he needed this fabric for a blanket. My niece was busy making Halloween costumes at the time and really wanted to surprise him. So I found the fabric and made him a very basic quilt, using 1 1/2 yards as a panel in the middle, put a frame around it, then more of the Star Wars fabric to border that and then bound it with the same color as the framing fabric. That was it kept his fabric intact and he got his blanket. According to my niece he was so happy. He thought she wasn't going to do it. I was afraid if I cut up the fabric too much it would destroy what he really liked about it. The quilting was wound around the items in the fabric. I did something similar for a friend of mine that is a big SF 49'ers fan. She goes to the games so felt she needed something durable that could fold up for her to sit on and warm enough to unfold and put over her. She told me it sits on her couch all year long though so it won't get damaged by other fans.

What about blocks with "board shorts" made from many different fabrics. I forgot how to post a photo so I can't show you the ones I made....They're somewhere on this Board from a few years ago. I would suggest buying a small size pattern for toddler shorts or bathing suit, (or draw your own) making just fronts, and sewing each onto 12" blocks. Choose nice sashing and there you go. Any age would enjoy the look depending upon the fabrics you select.

What is this quilt pattern? I had someone else suggest that I make a labyrinth quilt as a quick quilt and I can't figure out what pattern they're talking about. I'm curious since the one I found didn't look easy or quick although it's on my to do list now...

Both of my boys asked for simple patterns and colors. Square in a square or rectangles with darker colors.

my 14 year old son is in the process of making his first bed size quilt for his own bed. He chose all his own fabrics and chose a block that he liked, I did the rest in EQ7 to coordinate with the fabric he had chosen. He is almost done piecing the top, then He is excited to be allowed to use the machine on the frame to quilt it himself !

I made one for my 16 year old grandson. He had said one of the flannel quilts I have at my house is his favorite because it is so soft. I made a "4 Layer Cake" pattern but cut my own squares from red, black, and gray prints. His room is all Ohio State Buckeyes, so I backed it in an Ohio State fleece. He loves it and has it on his bed. Was so proud of it he had to show everyone!
Is there a sports team he loves, what colors are in his room, anythinh he's interested in would work.
Good luck
