I love my Bernina but holy cow, if you don't buy the embroidery module with it, it will cost you over $1000 to add it, something I can ill afford to do.

My second choice would be a Janome.

Bernina is the best. You need a little more. Just keep saving. It will be worth it.

I'll be interested in hearing what you end up buying. I've got an old Brother 8500 and an old Pfaff 7530. I have been thinking of adding a new machine and have considered the Janome and Bernina line. Anyone know how much the Janome Horizon is running?

I was told by a local Bernina dealer that Sears Kenmores are made by Janome. You can get more machine for less money by going that route. Just doesn't have the fancy name and all the fancy extras like certain colors but does have the quality and all the important extras.

Whatever you do just make sure you buy from a reputable dealer, that they give you classes, and are close for servicing your machine. You don't want to buy one come to find out that the closest repairman is 100+ miles away. I also love brothers, and have also heard good things about the laura ashley NX-2000/Babylock Symphony(updated QC-1000/ Babylock Espire). I hear good things about Janomes too. I have alot of accessories to brother which is why i stick with the brothers and babylock brand. Something you might want to consider if you already have a prefered brand of machine getting 2 compatible machine so that you can interchange accessories
I totally agree with the Babylock brand. I got an Elegante when I retired and it came with every foot imaginable!!

I also agree with test driving several machines and getting one from a local dealer. They are an invaluable resource when you have questions or concerns.

    Good Luck

I just purchased the Viking Sapphire 875 quilt machine. It raised the presser foot when you stop sewing, cuts the thread, and I am just thrilled with it!
