I remember a friend of mine who said she would NEVER do that "A" word. Well then we did a fund raising quilt where she agreed to do a block. After finishing the block I figured she would never touch applique again. In stead after seeing the end product she went on to do applique on most of her quilts. Now after swearing to never do the A word another friend helped with a machine applique project and is now hooked. I know its frustrating when learning, but my suggestion would be take the skills you have learned and then "do it your way". I rarely do hand applique anymore, its always machine work.

I love machine applique. I make up my own designs for projects and usually have an applique project going along with other quilt tops !!!

Mine either. I tried it, it was a lot of work, and I thought this is kind of like coloring. Just filling in spaces with color. It's all my in-laws did. Beautiful but not my thing. I'm a piecer.

I agree completely. I did one about 3 years ago and never did another.

The most challenging applique quilt I've ever done was my cousins snowmobile quilt....TONS of pieces that were less than a 1/2 inch...and then a whole lot more that weren't much bigger. But the look on his face when he saw that quilt was worth every one of them:)

Its like every other facet of our lives. We have things we like and things we don't. But if we don't try them we will never know...I like the variety of techniques in quilting. Every technique gives a different result and I like to spice my quilts up as well as my talents by trying them, I may never do one of them again but, when coming upon a new challenge for a quilt I may want to try in the future I then have the ability to master it. After almost 20 yrs of quilting I tried paper piecing this year and I really like it..some don't. Applique, I've done huge projects and they turn out very nice...its whatever floats your boat...lol

What funny thoughts from everyone....I too, tried my first applique this year. I had seen a quilt and thought it was so cool and had to try to copy it. The picture is still in my head----the finished product is NOT that picture.
I don't think I ever want to applique again either!

I hated applique when I first tried it but several quilts later I love it! Small and large pieces both...even though I will say that the small ones really test my patience! lol There are still many many more techniques that you can choose from and make your own...keep your head up and your eyes uncrossed! :)
