How do you organize your scraps (less than fat quarter size)....do you sort by size or color?

Here's the Bonnie Hunter method

http://quiltville.com/scrapusersystem.shtml

She sorts by size, then light/dark. Works for me.

I love her method. I mostly still throw them away. Because I don't do scrappy!

All joking aside, my DGD has me saving my scraps to fill pillowcase size bags to give to the SPCA for dog beds. If I saved every scrap I would have to move out to make room for them. And as far as mailing them away, postage is not cheap.

I've been folowing the Bonnie Hunter method mentioned above. If I can, I cut either a 5xwidth of fabric strip or a 2.5 by width of fabric. If I can't get WOF then I cut either 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 squares. Then, sort by color and put in a plastic bag by color and all the same sizes in a plastic bin. I am looking forward to making a quilt that I don't have to cut ANYTHING for. I will just use my pre-cut scraps. Of course, ya gotta like scrappy for this to work!

WOW I've never considered this. Currently I have a 12"x12"x12" container that is brimming with "I CAN'T THROW THAT AWAY" scraps.

Thanks for bringing this up so I can think about it for me too! :)

Sort by color unless they are cut into specific sized strips ala Bonnie Hunter. I've also got 3 draws of scraps of various sizes and colors
