If you use all distilled it leaks like crazy, ask me how I know

We have iron in our well water so I use the iron dry. I spray bottled water when & where I need it.

I am on my 3rd Rowenta and they all leaked no matter whether I emptied it or not.

I do this too - even when I use it to iron CLOTHES! As little as possible, yeuch! We have really hard, limey water (probably because we're limeys? ) and if I put it in the iron, it would leave residues. :D If you were to put water in your iron I would certainly tip it out everytime. It can leave deposits as it evapourates therefore intensifying the level of mineral salts. Depends how expensive your iron was and how attached you are to it - mine has the option of being cordless and I don't know where I can find another one so I'd be devastated if it broke!

Depends on the instructions and usage level in my opinion. My Rowenta says to use tap water but there are other model Rowentas that specify distilled. I purposely looked for one that wanted tap water. It says to empty after each use. When I was working and ironing clothes every day (just because I'm really anal about that) I never bothered. And now on the odd occasion that I do iron clothing I usually go through the entire tank so it's not much of an issue. Never have had an issue with mine leaking. My EuroPro requires distilled water. It, too, says to empty after each use. This is the one I typically use for quilting and I usually go through at least 1-3 entire tanks depending on how much time I have to sew that day so don't worry about it with that one either. Never had a problem with it either. My only issue with that one now is the cord wearing coming from the base of the iron. Guess it's time to get DH to re-wire that!

I have a rowenta which I love (on 3rd one) and I always empty it. Just an action I have always taken and a habit I got into.
I get scared that it may get rusty and steam out the old water on my fabric/clothes.
