I know I have posted a thread about potholders somewhere before. I have only made one or two sets awhile back. So I don't remember if you are to use 2 pieces of insulbrite and 1 piece of cotton batting plus fabric for one potholder. I was thinking of 2 pieces of insulbrite so that no matter what side you use it would protect from the heat. Or does it not make a difference? And also to make potholders, is it nessesary to prewash?

I would use 2 pieces of insulbrite and the additional cotton batting would be optional. I may make it rather bulky.
I would prewash, so that later they will lay nicely after laundering.

I made one with 1 layer of Insulbrite and then a left over practice sandwich with thin batting. The pot holder is too stiff for me.

When making heavier potholders, try making them over sized, the bulk is easier to manage while using them. I love my over sized potholders, they cover more surface and can pitch hit as extra hot pads :D:D:D

Loretta when you use 2 layers of insulbrite with yours how do you hold your sandwiches together?
