At the retreat I went to last week, the hotel had several of their ironing boards & irons set up around the room for general use. Those suckers turned off every 15 minutes even if they were being used. Grrr. Next year, I'm taking my own! (My T-Fal for "regular" ironing - whatever that is - does have an auto shut off. The Rowenta travel iron I have at my sewing machine on a small side table does not. Bought it at Bed, Bath and Beyond w/ a coupon.)

She's now testing the new Oliso (the one Fons & Porter uses). So far, she really likes it and, I believe, has a 20-minutes shut off on it.

I did have my iron plugged into an extension cord for stretch convenience. One day dh needed the extension and plugged it in used it and then.... Let's just say I discovered it still plugged in at least three days later. Iron still works but I did a slow melt down thinking of what could have happened and thanked God it did not. I do not ever turn my irons off. I make an effort to unplug them. A quick glance and I know it is off.

I just got a Rowenta over the weekend and really not sure if I like it or not. I like that it's heavy but I don't like where the knob is to turn it on/off. Thinking about returning it. And I must be an odd ball because my old Black/Decker that just broke had the auto shut off that I liked, but it was about 30 mins I think.

I bought a cheap GE at Walmart for $21, now they have some for $10??? Mine shuts off after 1 hr, even if in use. But with the 1hr window, it's not too bad. Comes with a 2 yr. warranty, and this is my 2nd one, 1st one pooped out b4 2 yrs., so took it back and got a new one. I've had 2 Rowentas, and they both had short lives....wouldn't buy one again.
