The Jo-Anns by my house has changed a lot lately. The clerks are very nice and helpful when they can be. I was there today and saw the clerk at the checkout counter give a woman a flyer with the 40% off coupon so she could get a discount on what she was buying. It's such a pleasant change from a few years ago. Going to this Jo-Ann's used to be less than pleasant.

I told the manager at the Apple Valley store that JoAnn's had gotten a not-so-good reputation - she told me that she knew that - and were working at changing!

I am so glad to hear you had a positive experience. However, I have shopped this JoAnn's Apple Valley store for many years and can understand why they have gotten a bad reputation. Number 1: Cutting counter line that is about 20 persons long, waiting on only 1 employee cutting, and the customer at the counter is still doing her fabric shopping while at the counter ("Oh wait a minute here while I search for another color...") And there is another employee at the counter, but she seems to be terribly busy straightening the bolts of fabric while staring blankly at the line ahead of her. It took thirty minutes to get to head of the line if you shopped on the weekend. Now they installed a take-a-number system that seems to be more efficient.

I have been one of their most vocal critics on this Board. I am happy to say two of the three in our area have finally gotten their "stuff" together and are much easier to shop in.

I think the third is probably hopeless until they put new management in or shut it down. A new Hobby Lobby and a new super Walmart have moved within a couple minutes of it, I smell blood in the water! My GF and I were talking last week and she swore she was never stepping foot in the third one again. I will drive an extra thirty minutes to avoid it. Luckily we are getting a brand Joann's that is only 15 minutes further away than the nasty one.

I know someone who works at the Apple Valley store and forwarded a link to her on Facebook. She was happy to hear the good report. My entire career was centered on some type of customer service and public relations so I appreciate your comments. Yes, the chain store has made the 180 degree turnaround in the last couple of years. It was so bad in stores in both MI and WI that I had refused to spend my hard-earned paycheck there. It is nice to hear of such improvements. :-)

I would love to find a fabric with wonderful service. Currently the closest place to me is a Walmart. I mostly purchase precuts form them since I cant stand the service from the ladies when I need yardage cut. I have had excellent service online however. I have called some of the stores and had associates assist me over the phone while I was looking at their websites. Beverlys Fabric is outstanding with this. When ordering from them for a commissioned piece I wanted to make sure that the fabrics I was looking at online were true to color and match. They were great about walking through their store while on the phone with me, pulling all the fabrics at once and not only one of the associates but all three of them got together and looked at the fabrics to determine that they would indeed match and then even assisted in the same way with picking out just the right threads to ensure they to were what I was looking for. I was very pleased and when looking online that is always one of the first places I go to.

I also have experienced excellent customer service at the Joann's near us. They usually have at least 2 people cutting and they have the take a number. Also, since the last reorganizing, they now have one line at the cash registers so if one customer needs extra help, the line can still be moving along. Also, I had a nice coupon (40 percent) and the cashier was very sympathetic about not being able to use a coupon on the magazines.
