Joining rows of stars together
Hello, I'm new to this board. I have a question about sewing rows of Morning stars, Prairie stars, or Virginia stars together. I have completed the four rows of stars as instructed and attached triangles to both ends and smaller squares to join the stars into rows.
I am stumped as to how to join the four rows of stars together using small and large squares and rectangles. The pattern, by Fons and Porter, lacks instructions on how to do this. I really appreciate your help with this or, if you can point to tutorials. Somehow, I could not load photos of my project with this message. However, photos of the quilt can be seen here:

Thank you.
Jeff

It looks like there should be 9 rows to join looking at the picture. If the stars are complete that is puzzling. I would check the Fons & porter website for help. They should be able to help you make sense of it. Without reading the pattern I'm sorry - not much help.i love the quilt. Maybe someone here has it & can explain the construction instructions. Is it in one of their magazines or a separate/ purchased pattern?

I just read the ( comments) below the picture you linked, they have a link in the second ( response) comment for a tutorial on set in seams- that might help you- evidently it is rated ( experienced) and the designer assumed anyone making it would know how to put it together.
check out the tutorial- maybe it will give you the help you need.

Thank you for your replies. I Googled tutorials, but none came up. My problem is not the Y seam or set-in seam, which I am familiar with. I have attached a photo of two rows of stars. I'm having problems attaching the rectangles, and small and large blocks between rows, to make the top. Thank you again for your help.

The small plain squares can be made into two triangles and sewn in easily that way. The larger squares could be constructed the same way, but then you'd have to applique the small stars ontop of them. It sounds like the construction of this top was intended to be done with set-in seams, but I really think it would have been easier constructed with those stars you have completed partially assembled, with the points assembled into the rows inbetween them. Not a big help, since your stars are already complete, unless you feel like doing some unsewing.

First of all, I would like to say that your quilt is going to be one gorgeous quilt when you finish!! Please share the finished quilt with us.
Are you having problems with the two points of the opposite stars coming together? I would mark the seam allowances at the points for reference marks, sew in the small blocks just as you did prior, sew in the bigger squares, and then rectangles, matching reference marks. Your quilt will look like swiss cheese for a while.
