I agree. Or at least it detracts from the animals, which should be the focus, in my opinion. Not opposed to a frame, but maybe a different fabric.

How about decorative stitches . Can use thread to bring out each block

Moira- that piece you added is cute but I think it overwhelms those blocks. I really like the first picture but if you want to change it maybe do a different sashing but a bit more subtle.

I agree with this. I think the bright colored fabric you proposed would overwhelm the animals.
