I know my husband is one of them and being given even a quilt to lay over them reminds them of being in a coffin draped with a flag! Which causes MAJOR setback in recovery from this horrible disorder.
Moda should have a little tack and realize this or at least ask questions first.

Sorry for my interruption I am sure many of you will send blocks anways, just wanted to put the truth out there!
I am glad you brought this up because I am not sure how many people are aware of this possibility, and I would suggest that you make Moda aware of these considerations-- their website is modafabrics.com. My hope is that the people who actually give the quilt to the soldiers would be knowledgeable enough to know when to give it and when not to give it so as not to retraumatize the individual.
I did just this. Went to this blog and asked if they knew anything about the pattern being a problem for veterans because I really wanted to participate in this event but sure did not want to do any damage to a veteran. You can read their reply near the bottom of the comments. I was impressed with their answer.

I am so glad to know that they weren't doing this in some knee-jerk reaction to the current situation. I didn't believe they would make a design without doing some thorough research into the "correctness" of the design. I think it is very tasteful. I will be proud to add some stars to the cause. I just need to get a BROWN pigma pen, have a black one but not brown.

I have to say, this concerned me when I read it. I also didn't want to cause anyone, especially ones who have served our country so selflessly, pain or discomfort. So I called my great uncle who served in two wars and was wounded in battle if this type of quilt would bother him. We had a wonderful discussion on the topic and he assured me it would cause him personally no problems, in fact, he would be proud and honored by not only the quilt and its design, but also the generosity and greatfulness of those giving of their time and talents. He went so far as to call some of his buddies and "poll" them as well and all felt as he did. So I guess for me, I'm satisfied that many will appreciate the gesture and the love, time, talent and heartfelt gratitude behind each and every one of these quilts.

Here's the link for the pattern: http://www.unitednotions.com/LA_just_one_star.pdf

Let's all try to do 1 block!

Blessings,

My LQS- Web Fabrics is also sponsoring this. I have turned in a couple of blocks so far. Pretty easy pattern to follow, and does not take much fabric.

Thank You Mary Anna!

 ;-) :D :D
I just mailed off a red star and a blue star. Hope the rest of you take part. It is a very easy pattern and I am sure most of you have done it before.

Mine is done. Sent the info to our quilt group and we will be sending them in together.
From an "Army Brat" who was born in an Army hospital and followed my Dad all over the world I thank all of you who do things for the veterans. My Dad was in Korea and 2 tours in Nam. Unfortunately he didn't live long enough to see the patriotism that the USA is showing now. We can never say thank you enough to those who serve
