Has anyone ever done lap quilting? Is there a tutorial? My DD gave me a book with some instructions but would like to see a video with step-by-step instructions.

My style of lap quilting is liberated, using no hoop & letting the quilt rest comfortably on my lap.
My Secret: Use a good quality hand quilting needle(s) and take smaller stitches, unless you like bigger stitches.

My DD found one this morning at a yard sale. The more I look at the pictures, the easier it becomes. I think I'll do 2 or 3 sample squares and see if I can get them together.

By lap quilting do you mean a large piece of material you are quilting or do you mean quilting large squares (20"or so) then sewing those together to make a larger quilt. I have quilted a queen size quilt by using a plastic frame and just hand quilting it. I have also been making a lap quilt by cutting all my pieces 20"(top material, batting, backing) then quilting those. I then sew those squares together on the machine. There is a certain way to sew them so that it comes out smooth. I'm sure there is a tutorial somewhere. I got a book from the library.

I "rebuilt" a 50yr old king size quilt years ago just holding it in my lap with no hoop. It sometimes took some creative maneuvering to hold the area where I was working but it I got it done and loved doing it.
It was a quilt my BFF's mother had made in the late 1940s. When she died suddenly in the early 1970s my BFF's father put it on his bed and wouldn't take it off. And with all the laundering, cats and dogs sleeping on the bed over the years it was in pretty bad shape. I kind of felt her presence while repairing it (I grew up across the street and knew her well).
