Default Laura Heine Moose

I have completed this collage but don’t know how to quilt it. I plan to make it into a rather large pillow . It is made in batik squares not flowery motifs so needs close quilting. To add to my concerns, my sewing machine doesn’t do free motion quilting.
Sorry I can’t post a picture but if you google her you can find a picture .
Ps : her patterns are fun!

I might cover it with bridal tulle to make sure no edges come up and do lines of quilting through it spaced fairly close together. If you followed the strips with your quilting, it should match in?

I would quilt in straight lines like it shows on the pattern. You said your machine doesn't do free motion, just stitch and do straight line quilting. Neat quilt!

Cover it with a lightweight tulle and stitch as if you were repeating the contour. In other words the way the hair lies.

If you can't lower or cover your feed dogs, temporarily remove them.

I was in Laura's quilt shop yesterday and there were tons of her quilts on display. With the exception of one that had a swirly pantograph, all the quilts were done with straight line quilting, quite close, 1/4" to a 1/2" at max, gridded, and it very much suited them.

Just use your walking foot, nothing else required, my favorite no stress way to machine quilt. Do a little sample work using the type of fabric and batting you used so you are happy with your stitch length and thread choice

Thnx for the help so far. Since I plan to make this a pillow, I will take Yartan’s advice and cover it with tulle. My question is do I cover the entire piece or just the moose? Do I change colors to match the background? It is a light background and batik dark browns for the moose.

Kalama, did you notice if any of Laura’s were covered in tool?

A lot of machines come with a darning foot plate that is raised a little over the feed dogs. That may work for free motion quilting

I had never heard of Laura Heine until I read your post and I went to her website. ! Making her quilts could become addictive. Congratulation on completing your collage.
