I'm working on a pattern in an old magazine. It's a multi-page article, with lots of photos, but not much instruction. I'm fairly inexperienced at following a pattern and includes a few things I haven't done before. Might the purchased pattern include more instruction?

Probably not. In that case someone else (I think it was someone else) was having problems with it earlier this year and wanted to know how much yardage it would require to add extra rows.

I developed a quick fast technique that is substantially different than the instructions but results in the same look. I needed a comfort quilt in a hurry.

I took process photos and wrote up my description, but it is really for someone who is used to working with scraps and might not be best set of directions, plus I'm still trying to print out my overall setting diagram from Electric Quilt. Still, if you send me a PM with your email, I can quickly send it to you.

Chances are if it is an old magazine the pattern may not be available. You could look for YouTube videos on the techniques or post here on any technique you are unfamiliar with. Probably QB members will know.

The downloaded pattern only eliminates the bulk of having magazines around. The electronic version directions will most likely be the same as what was published.

It's not a typical card trick. That's why it attracted me. I looked at making card trick a while back and decided I'd never get all those triangles made. The only triangles this one has are on the ends of the rows and on the corners. So, when I found this one, I put it on my list. I wish I could post the layout, but it's copyrighted, I'm sure. I'll post my draft of the pattern when I get it done.

I'll PM you so I can see if your version is easier. I really appreciate your willingness to help.

Mine is all squares and straight cuts except for the setting triangles. It was fast and easy and the real advantage is that with the way I did it, you don't really have to layout the whole top before you put it together. Just work with contrast when selecting two fabrics to go together.

Feel safe to download the pattern. You really don't need the rest of the magazine. Have fun making your quilt.

Drafting the pattern totally cleared it up for me. Now, I'm sure I can make it.

This is the basic block. The blocks on the edge add triangles, but it looks easy, other than making sure the seams match. They are laid out on the diagonal (it will be my first diagonal quilt).

This is hard to see, as I used colored pencils. Now, I know where every fabric goes. I'll just have to make sure I label every block. I'm totally in awe that drafting it made it make sense.

What an awesome idea to use colored pencils and make a diagram of the whole quilt. It would make placement so much easier. I can hardly wait to see the finished product.
