At first I was not drawn to batiks...especially the ones that have what I call imprints/stamping on them (like fern leaves or whatever). I do love the ones that look like watercolors what I call the old fashioned batiks. There are so many ways to use them to create many different effects in quilting. Being such a traditional quilter it did take me awhile to warm up to them but once I did there was no looking back.

i agree that they can be "muddy", you have to be careful (unless this is the look you're after) to choose clear colors. i love them, though. i like how "tight" they are, helps me keep the stretch factor down.

I finished a quick quilt this week-end made up in batiks and wanted to share. You can find it at http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-102648-1.htm

You can cut a batik into pieces and not find the same color, it creates a unique perspective of color.
jdiane318, are you talking about tonga rhapsody? i am piecing a top now for lqs bom. it is going to be visually hypnotic and is sooo much prettier than the picture...large l09 x 92, i think. you are correct...no two pieces are the same and to top that, in this pattern, no two squares are the same and there are 12 squares, 10.5" each, with about 5 interior sashings with scattered inch=size blocks tumbling thru border and sashings. think i may be ready for 'zoo' if i get this finished. i am definitely a batik fan here. oh, did i mention there are 13 different fabrics involved? if this is the quilt you are thinking of, please pm me that i can live thru this.
