I tried my first Mariners Compass tonight. Tried a different method. It's called the three D fabric folded Mariners. It took me about 15 minutes to cut it out and about a half hour to assemble it. It will take less now that I know what I'm doing. What do you think of it. I'm going to add a border to square it up and use some beads to embellish it. I can't wait to try the 32 point one.

I found the pattern at www.phillipsfiberart.com/ Typed in bargello and picked patterns and it's about half way down the page. I always wanted to make a mariners compass and this was a wonderful and easy pattern.

Your Mariner's Compass is beautiful. I have one on my Eagle quilt that was my avatar for month's. You said you got your pattern from "Phillip's Fibre Arts" and it was really easy. Mine was done from WedgeWorks 3D Mariner's Compass by Cheryl Phillips and the tool is included in the book. Of course now that I've reread what I wrote, I wonder if it is the same person/people.

That is a beauty! I love the fabrics you chose, the two plainish ones tone so perfectly with the middle one. Your embellishment idea is great, can't wait to see the finished piece. :-D

Wow...your compass is very very nice! Great color choices. I just went to the website and they have some beautiful patterns. I just might give their patterns a try. Making a Mariner's compass is on my "bucket" list. So is a Bargello and I see they have a pattern for that also. And the Spicy Tablerunner I have seen made up and wondered about the pattern. Thanks for posting!!!!
