Just make sure you wash your quilt before giving, otherwise marks WILL re-appear during winter.....

I use a little device that holds chalk (I refilled with pounce powder when it was empty). It has a little rolling disk with tiny teeth and I just roll it along whatever marking line I need. I hand quilt in floor frames, so I set up the quilt sandwich, and just mark as I go along. I keep a terry towel handy and when I am thru stitching, I give it a rub and all the chalk is gone. Easy, quick and no worries about residue. I then run a sticky roller over the area to get rid of any terry towel lint. What I like most is that if I mark something and don't quite like the placement I just rub it off and do it again.

I save my slivers of handsoap. They work well on medium to dark fabrics and draw with a sharp line.

I use washable markers. I get to choose the color and if I make a mistake while drawing, I change colors. The washable markers help me stay on the line I'm hand quilting, and washes out perfectly once the quilt is completed.

I just had a bad experience with a black frixion pen! I marked a circle on dark blue fabric and when I took an iron to it, the circle turned white! I cannot get the white circle out. I have heard other nightmares with these pens too. Anyone else having trouble?

I agree, I really like these 'rolling chalk pens'.

Have you tried washing with soap and water, it was my understanding that got rid of the mark....yes these pens had 'history'

No, haven't tried the soap and water trick. Will give it a try. Thanks.
