Default Masculine fabric; teen men/boys

When making charity quilts, most are feminine.
when making quilts for church children, it’s hard to find male/teen fabrics.
When decorating the house, it’s hard to find gender neutral, especially male teen.

So, I’ve been looking for teen/male fabric. What motifs would male/teens like? Teen idols, rock stars, sports idols, hobbies, tools, activities with dad, extreme sports, demolition derbies, speed, and testosterone. It’s an all true statement, the difference between men and boys is the size of their toys.

My brother was a nerd. His interest was astrology. As an adult it became scuba diving with underwater photography, then computers, then knowledge.

What male interests do you think of?

Any ideas on motifs for male teens and men

You mentioned Rock Stars so music is definitely one. Cars another, trucks too. (girls). he, he. Oh my, what else are young men attracted to? mine would be cars, trucks and astrology so you hit those well.

Favorite movies, travel or geography, dinosaurs, minerals, favorite foods, panels of their interest to name a few.

Most of all have fun choosing fabrics, themes, and quilting designs to make it unique just for them!

There are tons of panels available with motor cycles, trucks, wild animals... hunting and camping themes. A panel is a good place to start, then add blocks to compliment the panel. Marshall's Dry Goods has a ton and a half of panels and they are good quality.

One of my favourite patterns for teen boys is skateboard. I use up all my wild funky fabrics for the boards. For younger boys, I do I spy quilts with bug or snake fabrics.

A couple things that haven't been mentioned yet are computer tech and gaming.

Please don't use novelty/themed prints. Most respondents in this topic advise solid and low-volume prints for men and boys:

Fabric for masculine quilts

The guys I know (husband, brother, brother-in-law, etc.) much prefer solids and definitely dislike theme-y prints.

Think of it this way - would you want or use a quilt with all kinds of kitschy "female-themed" prints in it?

yep, only the younger males might like all the prints. Adults tend to like blues and browns mostly. Have fun!
