Memory Quilt for Breast Cancer
#1
Hello Ladies and Gents:
I am in need of some ideas, here's the story:
Two years ago a friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had both breasts removed and a series of chemo treatments. Last month she went for a check-up and the cancer has moved to her liver. The doctors went in a removed a large mass, however, they found more and could not remove it. She was told she has 6 months to a 5 year life span. She is married and has two little girls, 7 and 8 years old. I would like to make her a memory quilt so when she feels down and out she can at least snuggle with a smile. I have ask her husband for some photos but have not received them yet. Am I wrong for wanting to do this? We are having a benefit for the family April 16th and I have made a couple of wall quilts. We will have a silent auction as well as a live auction. Last time I made quilts for a benefit they sold for $250.00 each. Any ideas on this subject? I really am lost at this point and love family so much. The benefit will be held at the American Legion Post 489 in Peck Michigan if interested in coming out.
Please send some input my way!!

I think it's a wonderful idea. No you are not wrong for wanting to do this. The husband has a lot on his plate right now so don't fault him for not getting the photos. If you can, take some photos yourself to use.
If possible, tell your friend or her husband about Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Those folks perform miracles and are absolutely wonderful. I can honestly say they saved my daughter's life and I will be forever grateful.

why don't you make 2 eye spy quilts.....she could snuggle under them with the kids and when she is gone, they will have all those happy memories of sharing with Mom. I would be glad to send you some 6 1/2 inch novelty blocks to get you started....LMK

You are a dear friend. Maybe the husband will not be up to going through the family pictures any time soon. It might be painful to him to see reminders of all the good times that they had together, now that their future seems so threatened. Don't give up yet, though. Perhaps you could offer to go through the pictures with the children. It might be a pleasant distraction for them, and they're old enough to learn a bit about quilting. In fact, teaching them the joy of making something with their hands would be a lifelong gift to them, and something that might give them emotional strength when they need it most. Another idea might be to get the little girls to draw pictures showing their love for their mom or fun times with her. Those could be scanned and would make a very special quilt.
