When I buy fabric online, usually I buy from stores that have 1/2 yard increments. Sometimes need 2.5 yards, etc.

In a brick and mortar establishment recently, I asked for 1/3 yard because I knew it was all I needed for a scrappy quilt. (I am a frequent purchaser of 1/3 yards in most of the stores I shop at.) This one particular shop said they didn't cut in 1/3 yards. The clerk said to me that they cut at nine inches and 13.5 inches. Quarter yards and 3/8 yards. I actually thought that was silly. If the cutting mat is right there and they can cut at 13.5 inches, why not 12? The fabric was priced at 9.00 a yard. My request would have been a nice, whole $3. But I settled for 1/4 yard.

I hate when stores list 1/2 yard price points. It make you think you are getting a bargain until u view the shopping cart lol....
Me to, i hate when they show the 1/2 yard prices..just show the per yard price, we can put in the 1/4 or 1/2, if that is all we want...

..depends on the store...the couple I use to order online from usually will specify 1 yard minimum if the bolt is on sale... I always buy a minimum of 1/2 yard. Guess I figure that's 2 FQs and that's a nice start, lol. Then when it arrives, I kick myself for not ordering a full yard....go back and find it's sold out. Acccckkk.

I like the option to buy 1/4 and 1/2 yards, but agree with others that it should be priced by the yard not the half yard.

I think most of them require 1/2 yard. There were a couple I shopped at that only required 1/4 yard, but can't remember who they were.

I think that you can buy down to 1/8th Yard cuts. Just where you put in the amount you want go to the least amount.
Plus some of the companys have fat quarters and if it is the end of the bolt almost any amount. I have seen down to 5 inch pieces.
So just check it out while you are looking.
Have fun kjym Kathy

The places that I have ordered from, only two, had a one half yard minimum.
