Minky Fabric Made Me Feel Inadequate
#51
I have made ten of the Shannon Cuddle (minkee) blankets that are pieced and quilted as you go to a minkee backing, and the secret is basting spray, lots of pins and a walking foot. My first one I didnt use a walking foot, and I was almost in tears, because I was already committed to make the rest for my grand-darlings for Christmas. The walking foot made all the difference in the world. Don't give up. Minkee is wonderful stuff and also another tip for it as well as all fleece is to NOT use fabric softener or a dryer sheet when laundering them. Use the rubber dryer balls, or some crinkled up balls of aluminum foil in the dryer to fluff it and take away some of the static electricity. Good luck.

I have used minky for the top square with flannel back in a flannel rag quilt and it really added variety to the quilt.
I have also used minkey as backing for a strip quilt and a twin-size-pieced-top and they worked well with spray basting.
Piecing the minkey worked well also provided the nap is matched.

Oh dear! I am putting a 9 patch flannel together with a 9 inch minkey square. I tried a sample putting it together using a serger and that seemed to work very well. I planned to back it with flannel. Am I setting myself up for failure? Has anyone tried using a serger for quilting? I can lower the blade so I thought that might do it. Any advice?
