Thanks alisonquilts for asking this question. When I miter a boarder usually use only one, so now I know that I can use more than one and best of all the easiest way to do it. Thanks ladies for your great answers on this board.

I use all the borders at once. It is easier to line up the mitre and adjust as needed this way. It looks smoother to me.

I do line up the mitre visually before sewing.

I added borders one at a time--ONCE. Never again. Now sew them together press seams in opposite directions, just keep adding longer ones to accommodate the 45 angle. So much simpler to me and for me. Good luck.

Well that was easy! I just added my two borders as one piece, in half the time, and all but one of the corners are matched perfectly (the other one will do). When I think of the time I've wasted over the years...

Here's what I've been working on, and it is now complete and ready for layering and quilting. Don't suppose there is a way of adding borders, layering and quilting all in one step?!

It is a baby quilt for a dear friend who has a passion for rabbits. Each rabbit is hand appliqued and embroidered (using patterns from Darcy Ashton's "Grandmother's Bunnies" book). And I am pleased to say that the whole thing was made from stash! Score!!

I would love to learn how to mitre borders. Anyone know of a particularly good tutorial for doing this? Thanks

Thanks! Nothing particularly special about the embroidery - more designed to indicate legs and ears and such! I'll post it in Pictures when I finally have it completely done (at the rate I'm going the child will be in college by then....)

What a great question - I've been adding numerous mitered borders to my latest quilts and it never occurred to me that they could be added as one piece!

Great timing on the question--I've been planning a quilt where I can really use this. Thanks!

Honestly, sometimes I am so dense. It never occurred to me to do this. Most of my quilts have multiple borders and I have never tried this. What a great idea.
