My first flannel quilt and I have a couple of questions???

Ask these questions to decide if you want batting. If you make a flannel blanket and add batting, it could be too heavy to use in the summer.

I recently finished a flannel quilt for my son. I did not use batting. Instead I used fleece for the backing. After quilting I trimmed the fleece to a couple of inches larger than the quilt top then folded it over and stitched it on as the binding. I've done this with other flannel quilts. Makes them soft and cozy and not too heavy.

i make some of my flannel quilts with just flannel backing,no batting. It makes a nice lightweight blanket. Because it's lighter it can be used as you would a recieving blanket. I have also done as others here and used fleece/minkee only. It depends on what I have on hand.
