I make quilts for my godchildren and nieces and nephews as wedding gifts. My down home, country girl, 29 year old, amazing goddaughter is marrying a state senator. She loves bright colors, pinks, purple, & yellows. Do I go with the colors she loves? Go to neutrals? Make a Christmas quilt and be safe? Her mother and I joke that she could be the governor's wife one day, but living in South Dakota this is possible!
She is not going to change but will people expect her to be less colorful? No pattern or colors have jumped out at me. This is for her, not the state of SD. I need help.

Well, if it were my goddaughter, I'd make a quilt using whatever colors are used in the wedding scheme. Since it's for both of them, I'd be hesitant to use the bright colors she likes. Or I'd go with neutral colors because neutral never goes out of style. (Just my opinion!)

How about something with neutrals and punches of brights here and there? Maybe a classic pattern in more contemporary fabrics, batiks or similar? Log cabin, Irish Chain, something like that. Personally, even though I have my favorite colors, I have several quilts in different color schemes and love them all

I can see both of the above post suggestions in a quilt. Irish Chain in the teal, raspberry, purple and yellows she loves. Love! Thank You!!! That was so easy, why didn't I see it before?

I would go with the colors she loves but not too feminine since she is sharing her home with a husband. Senators wives are just like everyone else and their own individuals. There is no need to change who she is ow her likes. Congratulations are her upcoming marriage. May she be blessed

Are you making a bed quilt or a throw quilt. If a throw, I'd make it in the colors she likes. If a bed quilt, I'd ask her about her preferences.
I wouldn't do anything different than you would with any other future-spouse though. A state senator is still a person.
