dh just looked at it and checked the motor. Everything is in good shape but the light and the wiring. The motor is strong. He had it zipping along! He can rewire it no problem. So I'm now online looking for a replacement light and a new case or table. Even with one of those I'm still coming out cheaper than any old machines I've seen locally! And this one was my Grannie's. Oh the hours she spent sewing on this old doll. Its a Singer 15 clone. I though it was a 99 clone but after more research today its a 15. Now to get me a 1/4" foot for it and a fm quilting foot.

Great news! Any chance you could post a photo of your Grannie's machine? I'm guessing there's a few of us that would love to see it.

Chances are you have a Japanese 15 and the quality of those were sometimes better than the Singer. And it is not a "clone" it is a copy.

I have a 1948 Universal 15 that is my go to machine. I love the drop feed dogs and I do all of my FMQ on it. Instead of rewiring the motor I just pulled it off and tossed it in my treadle. I dont need no stinking electricity!!

Could you post a few photos of it for us pretty please......

sorry but I HAD to do some cleanup on it before I posted a pic! Its been sitting in storage since the early 70's I guess and once I got it out for dh to look at realized how dirty it was! I am getting a table (freecycle!) this week for it and have the light on order. Sadly the sticker badge on the front came the rest of the way off during cleaning. I eventually want to get a handcrank for it too but that will have to wait a bit....the 1/4" foot comes first!
