Now, I'm not much of a hand quilter but I'd like to give it a try. I was looking into plastic frames at Joann's and Wal-Mart when a friend at my quilting group said someone had offered this to her if she knew of anyone who could use it. DH set it up for me this afternoon so when I have a new quilt top ready, I'll be ready to get started.

Don't mind the mess. It's set up in our dining room and we're not quite finished remodeling in there so there's some missing moldings and the floor's not quite even/done.

Wonderful! Lucky you, huh?!'

Using a staple gun, tack long strips of a sturdy fabric about 6-8" wide along each of the side rails. These act as leaders for pinning/basting the edges of your basted quilt to before rolling them on the frame's rails. The, if you wish, you can use a couple other strips, go over and around the end rails and pin them to the side edges of the rolled-on quilt, to keep the whole thing taut as you quilt.

I just lift the rails out of mine, with the quilt still rolled on them, and stand them in a corner when I need to take the frame down.

Enjoy!

Lucky you! I'd love to have that kind of set-up and the space for it too!

Looks like this one will be easy to reach both sides so you don't have to hug the frame to quilt on it. Lucky you!

How exciting! I have just started to hand quilt and am addicted. I also just started to applique and addicted to that to. LOL One of my aunts gave me my great-grandmothers hand quilting frame. I havent set it up yet, but its got all the hardware and instructions that are falling apart and yellowed. I cant wait to set it up some day. but need to find a good place to do that. Space is always an issue. Good luck and have fun!

I've seen them and heard of them but this one was free so I wasn't passing on it. My hand held frame is plastic and I'm really comfortable with that. And, the plastic frames are thicker so it's easier for my arthritic hands to grip it. But, I don't have to worry about gripping a floor frame in the same manner.
