My sister is the Quilt Police....Who knew!

I have eleven (11 !!) different ways to bind a quilt! I'm so glad I didn't listen to all the 'rules,' wow, I'd be such a stick in the mud! AND have boring ole bindings! (You should see my backs too...)

My bobbin thread is not always the same color as the top thread.
I incorrectly mix my fabrics in the same quilt. ( Joanns, WalMart and LQS) Oh! The horror!!
I sometimes use a sheet for backing.
I sometimes use dishes, lids or whatever instead of proper templates.
I don't really NEED all the rulers I have.
I don't always follow the pattern.
Bless her well meaning heart, I love her dearly but if she says just ONE MORE thing about my methods or lack thereof, I will beat her to death with my stash.
I sent her the link to this board, she will learn much more here from all of you talented folks.

That is too funny. But, I will say that I partially blame the teacher. She has given the rules of the quilt, so to speak. Sometimes, to many insturctors turn into the quilt police and tell people what they "should or should not" do. Kind of like, there is basting spray, but "I" would never use it on my quilt. That kind of thing. Instead of saying, yes, there is basting spray, give it a try and decide for yourself.
Just my 2 cents.

I love it! Generally I create art quilts - mainly because I don't like "rules". If I want to, I paint over anything that needs a different color, if it is sticking up, I glue it down, if a thread shows, I use a marker on it. If you think your sister is making you nuts, just consider the effect I would have on her!!
Every new quilter needs "rules" as a guide to get her started. This too shall pass. Congrats on introducing her to our world, we are happy to have her!!
