Label each box with your name, followed by a number or letter, and use your phone to snap a photo of the contents before closing up the box. Label the photos in your phone to match the boxes.

We had a packer come in once and all she did was pack each room separately, never ever mixed anything in the box and labeled it simply: MBR for master bedroom or LR for living room. Each Bedroom was labeled 1, 2 or 3. I never had a problem at all unpacking.

Is "material" obscure enough? LOL

According to Google Translate, "fabric" in Latin is "ierunt". Or "cloth" is "pannum". "Quilt supplies" comes out as "et pellem pilosam commeatu". Betcha nobody will know what THOSE mean!

"The room where I make quilts" translates to "Et ubi sum culcitris." I should put that on my wall! LOL

Use the fabric when packing breakable items. Easier to unpack than paper.

I live alone, so no "hiding", but when I moved across country the movers were coming. I labeled the serger "Sergio", the financial papers that didn't need to be nosed around "Ken Faulk" as he is my financial advisor, but who would know that??. Diamond was Joe because that's the name of my dealer, lots of men's names, was a hoot! My Mom's featherweight was "Lillian", my tools were "Linda" (for me) and fabric was just "sewing room". It all got delivered to my son's garage, then he and a friend moved me into my house. Both fellas commented several times that there sure were more boxes going into the sewing room than any other part of the house!

I like to label contents of a box by where they were at the house I'm moving from, maybe along with which room they are to go in at the new place--that way, "back hall closet" tells me what's likely in the box. Someone told me (after I had helped a friend pack her kitchen for a local move) to put a styrofoam plate in between plates, then wrap a small stack with paper. Wish I had thought of that. Professional movers packed our liquor stash one time but labeled that box "glassware" or something mundane, so that it wouldn't be singled out by local hires at destination. Another tip: put the bedding you just slept on, including the mattress pad, blankets, etc., in the dryer. That way when the movers set up your bed, you know right where to look for the bedding. I would label fabric stash as "sewing supplies", or "special linens" or some such. Actually, my husband's workshop/tools stuff consume his attention and he could care less about how many boxes of "sewing supplies" I have--he would have way more boxes than I do, lol.

When we moved from RI to KY, I wrapped dishes and anything that would have be wrapped in paper, in fabric. This way I was not paying for shipping paper and could label my fabric as dishes.

When I moved, the movers were horrified to discover how many boxes of books I had, and also that ALL of them needed to go upstairs. Compared to my "library", the sewing room is a piece of cake to move! Fabric can get heavy too, but not as quickly as books!

They're just lucky that my rock collection is so small. LOL!

Instead of using the word Fabric - use "reproductions", "bargellos", "solids"...
It's obviously still fabric - but not quite so obvious... I ran into the same problem when my teenage kids helped me move. I ended up telling them just to put anything that wasn't labeled with a specific room name in the hall way, that I'd move it later... lol. Seemed to make it a tad easier.

We used movers the last time we moved, before Kindle. We had quiet a collection of books. The movers used bungee type cords around tall stacks of books and moved them fast and easy. I will never move books in boxes again.
