I think the original picture is very rich and subtle. I also like the picture with the melons in black. Either way would make a very dynamic quilt.

Thanks y'all! yngldy, your ideas are good but beyond my talent. Barb in Louisiana, you have done it! I love the black melons and will give that a try. I have been looking and looking at this test block trying to figure out what to do, something is off. I think the solid melons will do it!

I have a 1930s double wedding ring that has orange background! Thought is was weird when I first saw it and that's why I bought it decades ago.
I'm all for unique colors in traditional quilts and your is quite attractive. The Cherrywood fabrics are always stunning, and are great with 'theme' fabrics.
Go for it, you've done a great job!!

Your fabric is awesome! And the black melons will really show it up. This is going to be a fabulous quilt.

If you like subtle keep it as it is - if you like major contrast - make the melons black

I too think there's not enough contrast between the rings and the background. I can always see that when the blocks made up but I really struggle myself when choosing patterns and fabrics.

I like the look you currently have. I love the subtle look it gives. I have never liked the DWR because it is too "old" for me but now I might even give it a try thanks for the inspiration and make sure you let us see the final quilt.

I love it-- Keep going! Why would you want a quilt just like everyone else?

I was going to suggest black melons as well. Now that I've seen it, I'm really liking it. It's got drama and sophistication and truly shows off your piecing and the gradations of color.
