I am doing a block for someone who is going through kemo. We all agreed to each do a QAYG block. Some background. I am beginner quilter. I have never done satin stitch or FMQ. I have decided to do an applique block. I was thinking of doing a satin stitch on the sandwich and that by doing that it would limit the amount of FMQ that I would need to do. Is this the best way to do this or should I do the satin stitch on the block and then make the sandwich and then do the FMQ.

Thanks,
Robyn

I would do the satin stitch on the block and then do the FMQ. If you don't do FMQ yet, why not use your walking foot and do a grid pattern. Also, if you have not done applique yet, you could do try raw edge applique. What pattern/block did you pick?

Satin stitch first, then quilt. I like to echo quilt the shape of the applique.

I've done blanket stitch on appliques in the past. I've only been doing applique for a very short time now.

You've done a GREAT job! I would blanket stitch around the applique, sandwich, use a walking foot around the bird house, and then FMQ a few clouds in the blue. You're very talented!!
