Has anyone else noticed this?
I know my LQS owner always emphasizes to ONLY use prewound bobbins for decorative stitches (she sells Janomes...which is what I have). She said not to use prewounds for sewing/piecing as the thread is not strong enough...maybe it's the same with other brands, too???

I will sometimes take the pointed end of a seem ripper and lightly run it across the spool or bobbin. It tends to loosen the top string. Have patience, this might take a few tries.

I use superior prewound bobbins and never have a problem finding the starting thread with them.

I have bought both kinds and can not use the prewound plastic ones. I also threw out those. I love the ones on cardboard.

I ,too only use the Superior prewound bobbins. They seem to never run out. I do have to remove the sides to fit my Bernina but my Viking I can use with the sides. No problem in finding the beginning thread.

I have the same problem with another brand. I take a straight pin and run it up and down to see if I can find the start. Somtimes if you look really carefully you can barely see where it is tucked but it is a pain and my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I use prewound bobbins all the time. I get them from Discount Embroidery [email protected] and have never had a problem. What I really like is that they now come in colors.
