Need help re: materials used in quilt

I'm sorry, it's McCall's crafts pattern 2443 - "An American Tradition".
Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm going to use every one of them - thread paint the fleece carrots and the wrists on the mittens, and change the jute hair to embroidery thread hair. I've already changed the scarves from fleece to cotton.
Since the quilt top is so large I don't have room to hang it anywhere. It's going to be hand quilted by me, and the back is going to be red & white mattress ticking.

They were short pieces, I glued with OK to Wash it glue, and sewed it down, but all is gone now. Wish I would have used something more washable. Or maybe it was just the jute that I used. Maybe you could take some of the jute and wash it, soak it, etc. and see what it does. Or could you find an unusual yarn to use for the hair? Would love to see your quilt!
