Try sewing the patches together in strips - about 3" or 4" wide, then - trim the two sides, sew between strips of 3" or 4" black sashing. LONG strips so your quilt will be like Chinese Coins. Starching the blocks first is a great idea.

I am with the other. With squares so small I do not think that a bias cut will be a problem. Once quilt top is made and you have it sandwiched to start quilting everything will lay flat. Jeanniebelle

She has them all mixed up as to cross grain and lengthwise grain and it's taking me some time to get them all going the same way. I am planning on making up all these squares into simple scrappy square quilts and my question is should I just combine all these cuts and not worry about which way they go or should I at least kull the bias squares so my quilts will not turn out too wonky???
Would it help to cut up lots of squares of muslin cut properly to go behind each square, or am I just asking for trouble doing this???
Thank you for any input you are able to give.

Since I am a worry wart about grain, I would not use the bias cut squares, especially the 4" ones, and would starch all the other ones and use them. If they are just a little off grain, the starch should stabilize them enough to keep them from stretching.
