Why not make it twin size - then he can lay on part and have the rest come up over him and it would also be long enough for the years to come. When he grows more and doesn't take naps then his mother could use it for a lap cover while watching tv like I did so many years ago. My kids used their quilts that were just quilted material and bound (by my mother) until they were absolutly threadbear because there were big enough for growth.

The issue of these places is something that can easily removed and washed. At kindergarden level the matt must be able to be wiped down. Picking something special is great but don't worry to much about it- these get dragged out thrown on the floor and jammed into a cupboard which may damage something too bulky.

My suggestion would be to contact the school directly and find out what they really want.

The suggestion of fabric ties is good ... though the staff, may not want to be bothered with tying those up each day. Thus might prefer the elastic. And is the elastic to cover the cot over after used and until the next day? Someone said it is removed from the cots each day ... yet at one school, I know they leave the child's belongings on the cot, and then stack all the cots together. So if this were the case, the elastic may be to help keep all his belongings together.

I know I may be throwing a monkey-wrench into your thoughts ... though for me, I'd sooner spend some extra time in checking it out, than to do all the work, and discover it is not acceptable!

Totally cute fabric .. will be fun to make and fun for him to enjoy!!

Thanks so much to all of you for all your great ideas. I think I have decided to actually take one of the fabrics and make it into a sheet and take the actual panel and make a little quilt to use as the blanket along with a small pillow. HIs mom and dad are thinking of taking him out of the actual daycare setting and going into a home setting daycare. He will have the mat (need sheet) and she encourages a blanket and a pillow. So I guess that is where I'm heading at this point. I'll wait to see what they decide and take it from there. For now, I'm going to make a few sheets that I know he will love. Thanks again

Good that you know a little more about the plans, before you go to all that work!

Did you ask if it goes over the child or under the child?
