Bluebird and mamagus, that idea is the one I'm thinking that I may use. However, when I see the pattern, it is only 4 patch's, then a square with opposite corners in patchwork. I got this pattern from #1piecemaker just last week, and I'm thinking of working those 16'ers into it.
Thimblebug, yours sure turned out pretty. It gives me motivation to just use the 16'ers as they are. You did a great job.
When I get home, I"ll post the ones I have finished to give you more ideas. (shhhh, don't tell my boss that I'm playing with all of you during work!)

I don't think this is the one you're looking for...but it's a really nice free download pattern. Scroll almost to the bottom of the page called Scrappy Star...

The pattern shown by Mamagus is called Arkansas Crossroads. I just finished one, and it went together pretty quickly. Also, on the QB just the other day was one done with the X-blocks in a pinkish color, done by the husband of one of the members.
I also like the one pictured above, by thimblebug. Very creative, and doesn't require a pattern purchase. Her sashing alternates green and cream, but you could make your sashing any color(s) you choose.

You can cut them along the diagonal in each direction and make disappearing 9 patch. Here's a good example of what I mean.
