I would have been very upset to have had some of them confiscated.

Some of them were worthless - and I mean worthless! - to begin with.

A couple of years ago I shopped at a Goodwill that had a big box by the register containing all sorts of small tool like things that the cashier told me came from airports. But I haven't seen that in a long time. Maybe they stopped doing it.
