I am searching for some very traditional quilting ideas for this Churn Dash quilt. It has sort of a country feel. I have searched online and found some interesting piecing ideas for the Churn Dash block but no quilting ideas. Thanks for your help....Deb.

Beautiful top!!! ARe you hand or machine quilting this?

As a handquilter, I'd echo quilt most of the pieces. I'd do a cross-hatch or maybe a rope pattern in the sashes between the blocks - and I'd look for a design to put in the center block - maybe a simple flower. In the corner blocks of the sashing, I'd just do an X. I like to take my quilt tops to a stencil place to see what fits in the blocks...

Beautiful - love your fabric choices! What about feathers? Not sure what your skill level or how elaborate you want to get. You can buy some beautiful quilting stencils at JoAnn Fabrics for feathers or other designs. Echo quilting would be lovely too!

If you use stencils - make sure you get the ones made from white/frosted plastic - you can see your lines easier. The ones that are pink or blue plastic are almost impossible to see where your lines are. You'd think it wouldn't make a difference, but wow oh wow, it does!!!

Very pretty churn dash blocks. Most traditional hand quilting of old blocks I've seen is usually 1/4inch inside the seam lines or cross hatching. Are you planning to hand quilt it? If you are going to machine quilt it, I think I might try a traditional pattern like Baptist Fans or Orange Peel? I love Baptist Fans on a quilt but there is no way I would ever have the patience to hand quilt them. I have seen both a machine pattern for them and someone doing them freehand on the net.

I am machine quilting it. I have a Tin Lizzie with the Shirley Stitcher computer so I can do most anything. This is a customer quilt and she wants it to keep with the country feel, otherwise feathers would be my first choice for sure.

If this is the case then I most whole heartedly agree with Tartan that baptist fans are the way to go. Traditional churn dash quilting, as others have posted is echo quilting 1/4 from the seam line and a simple cross hatch in the center, look in the lower right hand corner of my quilt pictured here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...t-t107423.html but that is recommendation for handquilting. For LA, Baptist Fan. In my mind feathers are too "fancy" for such a humble homey block as churn dash.

Echo quilt around the prints and crosshatch in the center -- at least this is how my DG did one about 90 years ago.
