Try other thrift stores in your area and garage sales.

I also have better luck at yard sales. Our local Goodwills, if they have any fabrics, is priced like the LQS. I gave up on them, on account of lack of cleanliness and exorbitant pricing.
Even though I have dismantled men's shirts for quilting, you can buy brand new men's shirts at Wal-mart for less than the re-cycled ones at Goodwill. No bargains at either of them, here.

Around here they hang the fabric up with the sheets, dust ruffles and such. I too did not know they carried fabric
till cousin show me it. I have to go in wc so DH takes me through the rows and shows me what they have. Nope, can't hide anything so try to keep my needs at a minimun. He never buys anything but groceries with out taking me to see and ask for my opinion. So turn around is fair play.

the good thing about good will is that you can get any fabric there. They are called shirts, not trying to be smart here, just look for 100 cotton and men shirts are the best kind. You will get way over a yard of fabric on it and ugly fabric makes good scrappy quilts. Just ask Bonnie Hunter....I did LOL

Look for fabrics in their Linen racks. That is where they put the fabrics at my good will.

GOODWILL will only have(like all thrift stores) what the public in the area donates. ours sometimes does, alot -NOT! my friend checks often-recently she scored a brand new wheeled sewing machine tote for a $1.50--wished I'd check more often! FABRIC is often hung w/ the linens, so be sure to check that area!On vacation I check out thrifts-ya never know! In florida I got 3.5yds of batiks @ GW for .29, It was marked $2.50, was stapled w/rusty staple, ask the clerk to remove it so I could seehow noticeable the marks were. Said the tag wasn't theirs, it was damaged, if I wanted it--.29. SOLD!! LOL!!!

Your Goodwill has fabric. You just didn't recognize it! Wanting to make a Kaffe Facett designed quilt using shirting fabrics, that I saw in one of his books, I went to the nearest Goodwill store and found a huge assortment of men's striped 100% cotton dress shirts for $2.25 each. Some of them were brand new and still had store tags on them! No two are alike. I cut off the collars, cuffs, and plackets
