I save the free patterns in the cloud. I also upload all my bought patterns too. No space taken up on my computer and I can download to read or print from anywhere on any internet device. This is great when together with my quilting group. I have my whole quilt library with me. I pay for internet so I make it work for me. Most Clouds have free storage up to 5GB. I use several different ones and haven't run out of free storage yet.

I also save all my patterns on the computer (with back-ups, of course). I currently have more than 5,000 items in my quilt pattern files! I printed out patterns when I first started quilting, but I ended up with more paper than I wanted to deal with. Now I just print out when I need, when I need it.

Right now I've got to print out "maybe" patterns as I'm unable to store on our computer. I haven't tried a disk or flash drive. We had our computer worked on and hubby had it cleaned up. Since then we have not been able to install computer works so I can have pdf files. What a pain!!! I sure wish he'd get this problem fixed. The sad thing is if the pattern is in pdf format, I can't even print it off. All I get is garbled goop!!!!

I don't print them unless I'm sure I'm going to make them, but I save hundreds and hundreds of quilt patterns (kids clothing patterns too) to my hard drive. Hope of making them all springs eternal in this old brain of mine.

Usually, if I see something that I like, I put the design in my EQ program. Yes, sometimes the free programs are only FREE for a certain length of time.

I also have many many printed patterns. I definitely use them for inspiration and every once in awhile I actually make one. As ink is expensive and it is time consuming to file all of these printouts in binders or folders and then have everything indexed, saving them on a flash drive or in a cloud makes so much sense. Now I just have to do it!

I do the same as Dunster. I could never give the free patterns up "cold turkey", definitely would need intervention.

I do the same. I have a whole section of my hard drive just for downloaded patterns. It's a lot easier than having all that paper around. I've started doing the same thing with my recipes. I keep them all on my computer and just tote the laptop out to the kitchen when I want to use one.
