there's been so much talk about the obw's that i've decided to try one. i was in nyc today and went to MOOD fabric, where the project runway designers shop. omg- i could spend all day there! but i was good and went right to the cotton prints. found several that look like good candidates, SO, when i finish my baby quilt (first grandchild, due aug. 4th-a girl!) then i will move right on to this obw. see, your posts have opened up possibilities for at least one quilter, sew onward and upward! p.s. swatch was not there :o(

I separated my OBW motifs with triangles of solid color fabric. I couldn't stand to mush all those motifs together. Each motif deserved to stand on it's own. IMHO a fabric with both straight and curved lines makes great OBW motifs. Mine seemd to come out in two categories: Stars or Circles. I alternated stars and circles in the lay out. The fabric is a tan and dark blue Tiki shirting with tikis and palm trees and hawaiian designs from JoAnn's last year. I am making quilts for twin teen boys. So I want to change the second OBW quilt of the same fabric... Possibly group the motifs by color and separate color areas by solid triangles for interest. The motifs are sewn together by half hexagons in long strips. It's fun and I love opening each motif after it is cut. Every one is a surprise, especially if you off set the first cut on a row by just a tad. I have about 91 motifs cut and I can't find two alike.
