Oh my gosh what did I just do?!?!?!?!

Congratulations! I became the proud owner of a 201 a few weeks ago. Haven't had time, or the bobbins, to get to grips with it yet, but the bobbins should be arriving via a friend in the States any day now. My hope is that it will do FMQ without all the temper tantrums thrown by my modern Janome.
The 201 is also very useful if you fancy taking up weightlifting (-: That is one heavy machine! It took me a while to get it up my 2 flights of stairs.

I got my 201 to put zippers in hubby's coveralls and mend jeans as all my Janome did was balk and growl at all that heavy canvas and denim. The 201 just powers through that stuff and an added benefit is that I can drop the feed dogs for FM quilting. Make sure to check the wiring. Mine was a 1947 model and the wires were soft and rubbery and cracking in many places. I had it completely serviced and re-wired for $70 and the machine was a free to a good home deal complete with a cabinet!

I would be jumping up and down doing the happy dance if I got a deal like that!! Have your dad check it out and get it cleaned and oiled. In my opinion, you CANNOT beat these wonderful, all metal, old Singer workhorses. Not only do they have the BEST stitches, they are almost indestructable. I think you're going to LOVE it!! Congrats and Merry Christmas to you
