I like the software for the paper piecing patterns. I find paper piecing to be sooooo much easier on these tiny blocks. You could make your own pp pattern from the book, but why when you can let the software do it for you. Printing out patterns is all I do with the software though, I found anything else too frustrating to bother with.

Agree! Otherwise plan to be doing a lot of tracing and measuring from the book.

Great that you can change the size of the blocks, beyond the original Jane sizes.
Plus that you can change the proportions from square, to rectangulars.
I see it as a program that can be used way beyond my actual DJ project ...... now at 121 completed

At the time I purchased it, I was confused about its installation and application and the creator of the program helped me thru it......it is indeed a sanity saver.......

I've almost finished my third DJ. I know there are a lot of people who only use the book, but I have a feeling I wouldn't have finished my first DJ if I'd had to trace the blocks and figure out the placement of the pieces for paperpiecing or other ways of putting together those tiny little pieces of fabric. The software and the "that quilt" website helped me make almost every block. Another bonus of the software for me was that after using it for several months, I purchased EQ 7 and it was so much easier to learn. The DJ software was sort of like training wheels.

At the time I was checking out Dear Jane there was a web site with a message board. A lot of help from those working on their own quilt. Many of the blocks you will just know. I just played with some of them and did not make the quilt. The software is very helpful. Drat, my program was for XP and probably not for Windows 7 and 8.
