    It looks like you just have the 1/4" beyond the star points.
    My suggestion would be to first add a white border.
    Then the navy .... the red pulls your eye away from the centre star and it really should be the shining glory.
    The binding, I'd audition when I got to that point ... my thoughts right now, are to stick with the navy for the same reason.

    thanks so much, everyone. i'm always drawn to red. but all of your reasons for the blue have swayed me in that direction.

    Seldom do we agree on questions of this type, must be right. I vote for the navy, too.

    the star had almost 1/2" seam allowance, so i wasn't going to add more white. but i decided to take your advice. i'm glad i did... it floats so much better. and i'm so thrilled that everyone talked me into the blue,.,. i LOVE it. right now, the glue basting is drying.

    I like the navy border as it draws out the center blue print. Very nice!!
