I still have one more block to embroider, but this will give you an idea of what I am working on.

The panel on the left is the middle, I will have another panel on the left that "matches" the one on the right. I just have to embroider the last block (they take about 5 hours each LOL) So I need a weekend to do them!

I'm debating whether or not to put a raised / quilted border around the embroidered blocks. What I would do is quilt it and then applique it onto the white.

Or should I just leave the white background as is, and just quilt the background?

I do think the pieces added to the corners enhances the quilt, though not sure what you mean by quilting them first. I would just sew them together, then applique to the block first and quilt the whole thing later. Pity you hadn't thought of this before putting the embroideries on, would have been easier. I do a lot of unpicking, and would probably undo the block corners to sew them into the outer seam - but that's just me.

I like the colors in the corner. It adds to the design. Beautiful quilt.

Thanks! What I mean by quilting them first is that I want them "raised" up a bit to give it more depth. So each embroidered block would really be "framed"

So I would make the border, and put batting and a backing, then applique that to the corners ... then quilt the whole quilt.

Make sense?

I would put the design in all 4 corners of the flower blocks. Otherwise I think there's too much white space around the flowers, which are beautiful. If you just do a frame around the block (keeping it the same size) I think you can do it with piecing and not have to resort to applique. I love the way the design creates the diagonal lines. Example below -

I would be afraid that the raised areas would make the flower blocks so different that they would not fit in with the overall design of the quilt. However - can't really tell without seeing it! It would be very creative if it works out.

OMG Dunster ... how the heck did you make that so fast ? LOL WOW!!!!

I'm going to do one block (the one that's not sewn on yet) with the raised borders to show what I mean ... I'll pin them tho, so that if it looks funny I won't have to unpick it.

Mine will only have 9 blocks ... I could make it 16 like in Dunster's pic, but I don't know if I have the energy, and I want to have it done by the beginning of December (when I donate all my quilts LOL)

I do like the idea of all four corners ... I have 2 hours to sew before I go back out with my dog, so I'll get to work on that right now! Hopefully I'll get one done before I leave so I can post what it would look like.
