I think that you did a very nice job with your selections and execution of your stitching. I might have used a darker fabric such as black for the sashing instead of the gold/tan fabric. But that is minor and if your happy with your work, I am certainly not going to go against your choices.
i like sashing , black, like the others said.
i love the idea of using machine stitching on it, i will file it under' 'things i want to do'

Beautiful. Would love to see it when it's complete. As others have mentioned, a black sashing will make all of the colors really pop. My grandmother made 10 of these quilts all out of my grandfather's ties (one for each of her 2 daughters and 8 GDs -- she had no grandsons!). She used a black satin sashing, and I think she must have used the heaviest weight batting possible as these quilts weigh a ton!
