Here is a pic of one I did for my Grandaughter a couple years ago. The pattern is called jewel box and I used brocade for the bigger QST and asian prints in cotton for the rest. She loved it. Hope this gives you some ideas

in asian fabrics. This particular one probably needs too many fabrics for your needs, but there are lots of good ones that would work I'm sure.

I have two books that give wonderful ideas for using oriental fabrics and explain the design process. The books might be out of print but I'm sure you could find them in a library or an online bookseller. Quilting with Japanese Fabrics by Kitty Pippen and Japanese Inspitations by Janet Haigh. The designs are so cool you could use other types of fabrics with the designs.

Perhaps a center panel of just the fabric, surrounded by a border (or two) and that surrounded by small squares of the fabric set in rows in a border all around the center and that surrounded by more borders.
The small squares can be set on point if you like, or use circles - 4 tiny drunkards path, perhaps for something different.

The problem with Asian prints is that the flowers or what have you are usually fairly large. I used them for a Dear Jane-style print and found them nice but a pattern with larger pieces would have shown them off better. I have seen some very nice, simple quilts with plain 5-6" squares, sashed in black, or large circles appliqued onto a solid.

Thank You so much for suggesting this site for Asian ideas. I found so many great ideas for layouts and creative quilting stitches. This will definately become the site I use when I make that special quilt for myself. :thumbup:

I made a Wackeroo quilt with Asian fabric. It is similar to a Wack and Stack except it is only requires 4 repeats.

I don't have a picture on hand of the quilt to show you but it turned out really nice.

The saching made a star in each corner of the block.

The pattern book is called Wackeroo quilts.

I did a 9 patch pizazz with Asian Fabrics. I would love to show you, but I haven't figured out how to upload pictures at this site. Even after reading the directions, I can't find the button. I remember seeing attachment button at some point, but not today.
