I cut them the size of other blocks and use them. I am making quilts to donate.

One year I had so many that I set them together, adding bits of sashing here and there, and made a reversible quilt! I usually use them to make mug rugs, pot holders, tote bags, zipper bags, and table runners, though.

Donate them to a guild to make charity quilts if you don't have any needs.

Sometimes there are requests on QB for blocks to be used for charity quilts. I don't mind passing them on for someone else to make something wonderful!!

Use some of them to make a backing more artsy and interesting.

Add sashing to make them a little bigger than 12 inches, quilt and bind and send to your nearest NICU hospital.

I save the prettiest ones and frame them to decorate a room. The hardest part is finding square frames, most frames are rectangle. I've also "framed" them in embroidery hoops though.

Our guild is making placemats for Meals on Wheels which gives me a great opportunity to use up a few orphan blocks.
