After reading all these stories I really have to think twice when doing things like this. My poor hands are scarred enough as it is.

You did get medical attention, right??? Those blades, especially new, have an oily coating on them and who knows what else from the manufacturing process. They are far from sterile and you risk all kinds of nasty consequences. A slice that deep is nothing to mess around with.

I took off the very tip of my left middle finger years ago - and it still feels sort of "not right" at times. It doesn't hurt - just feels a bit different.

OUCH!!!! I know that has to hurt.......they are lethal for sure. I know from experience, still have the scar on the top of my foot...... :-(

Definitely get someone else to do the cleanup. I won't let anyone else near my turkey! But, you should just sit back and be the supervisor while everyone else does the cooking.
