Loretta keeping my hard drive clean like that would be the same as trying to keep my kitchen floor clean with 50 kids tracking in and out all day, LMBO I swept things up several times a day and only mopped once in the evening....my computer gets a good cleanup a few times a year....I guess I am just not a real tidy person!!!

I'm with you, Amma, I just can't stick to a system that well. I like your theory about keeping our brains working! :D I am actually the most knowledgeable about computers in my house, but there is a lot to know. It helps to have someone to rely on when the computer decides to get really slow. I'm thinking in terms of the external hard drive, too. :D :D

My brother retired, 20 years Navy, computer specialist....should have mentioned that before as I am very proud of him!!! :D 8) :D

Sooo you can see why I lean on him heavily with my computer woes...

But maybe when he gets here in a couple of weeks I should video the look on his face when he sits down and turns on my computer.
First off the look of sheer horror and disbelief at the amount of "clutter" (his words not mine) on my desktop. Hey!!! It's all good stuff!!!

Then he starts peeking at the stuff that is still totally foreign to me...ram/memory/gigamathings and such

Next are my folders and by now I am ROTFLMBO at the look on his face, total shock that I can jumble everything to this extent in such a short time...short time??? It took me 3-4 months to do this!!!

Now I am offering to cook or go for take out....WHATEVER he wants while he sits there and performs his magic using all of the skills taught to him in the 20 years he was in the military..........anything to get out of his space and not have to face him...as I am still going to be on the floor laughing like a hyena if I stay in the room

And yet, he keeps coming back each time to bail me out. What a great guy, my brother 8) 8) 8)

I bought an external hard drive with my last computer, we almost lost everything at one time and decided it was worth the investment, I would have hated losing all the pictures I take.
And when we got the new computer, everything is still there without having to transfer. Get the hard drive anyway, you will be glad you did.

your story is almost, exactly, like mine, Amma.
My brother was in air force, for 21 years as: ta da! computer specialist! he is a total computer genius. I have seen him....well, he can do some amazing things...hacker-genius type things, but he only does that, for good reason.
Like, when my daughter was getting married and had a picture of her wedding dress on her desktop pictures, or something...anyway he had to put in a password to get there...he did it in a flash!
He does have a bit of a habit of programming my computer, his way.
I am too pc-dumb to know, at the time. He's not mean, esp. since he doesn't have to help me at all...for hours, sometimes...but, he too, does not like clutter.
I am good about the house,
but computer....packrat - me?

about your other comment:
Am I just hopeless???Naw... I say, that as long as my mind keeps twirling around patterns, the math, planning, plotting....I am doing my best to keep my mind exercised and staving off dementia...just what the experts are recommending
...that's my story, too...and i'm sticking to it!

Mine has lots of quilting stuff on it, but I figure it's mine and I can put what I want on it.

Mine is too, littlehud!!!
I guess after I get a system in place to save all of this too, I will have to work on a system to keep it that way!!! I can procastinate housework and laundry....but not losing all my quilting stuff that I have been collecting for years, now!!!!
Now to start researching online storage systems....and a external hard drive
